    <title>Reserve Ready Fleet</title>

    <title>USS Hornet</title>
    <summary type="html"><![CDATA[<a href="http://scotthaefner.com/kap/gallery/image.php?i=alamedaNAS01.jpg&amp;g=2008"><img src="http://scotthaefner.com/kap/gallery/midsize/alamedaNAS01.jpg" width="175" height="175" alt="USS Hornet" align="left" hspace="7" /></a><p>Originally named USS Kearsarge, the ship was renamed in honor of the 7th USS Hornet, which was lost in battle in October 1942.

Used extensively during WWII to launch air raids and ground attacks, it was later used in the Apollo Program for recovering both manned and unmanned space flights during the 1960s. In 1969, with President Nixon on board, the Hornet picked up astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins from the sea after they returned from their historic trip to the moon.

The Hornet was decommissioned in 1970 and opened as a museum at the former Alameda Naval Air Station in 1998.</p><p>Taken on April 25, 2008</p>]]></summary>

The lone, full-time resident hunted me down when he saw me drive past. At first, he was angry and somewhat hostile, demanding that I leave immediately. I pleaded my case to no avail, but finally convinced him to have a quick look at some pics on my MacBook to show him what I do. Intrigued, he calmed down and gave me the run of the town, allowing me to fly my kite and wander around wherever I please after dark.</p><p>Taken on November 23, 2007</p>]]></summary>
